The Negotiator

Rate this book
Wanted: Personal Buffer

Often snarly, workaholic executive seeks “buffer” from annoying outside distractions AKA people. Free spirits with personal boundary issues, excessive quirks, or general squeamishness need not apply. Salary negotiable. Confidentiality required.

Workaholic billionaire Sawyer Carlyle may have joked he needed a “buffer” from their marriage-obsessed mom, but he didn’t need a waiting room filled with “candidates” to further distract him. (Thanks, bro.) But when a sexy job applicant shooes his mom and the socialite in tow out of his office, Sawyer sees the genius of the plan. And the woman. In fact, Miss Clover Lee might just get the fastest promotion in history, from buffer to fake fiancé…

This “free-spirit” might look like hot sunshine and lickable rainbows, but she negotiates like a pitbull. Before Sawyer knows what hit him, he’s agreed to give up Friday nights for reality tv, his Saturdays for flea markets (why buy junk still baffles him), his Tuesdays and Thursdays for “date nights” (aka panty-losing opportunities if he plays his cards right). And now she wants lavender bath salts and tulips delivered every Monday?

Yup, she’s just screwing with him. Good thing she’s got this non-negotiatable six-weeks-and-she’s-gone rule or Sawyer may have just met his match…

A rich brotherly prank between the Carlyle family, leads to the free-spirited Clover Lee to apply for a position as Sawyer Carlyle buffer between himself and his mother. Sawyer’s mother has plans to get him married off and is throwing every socialite she can find at him. While Sawyer just want to focus on business and growing his family’s legacy.

Appearing as complete opposites, the chemistry between Sawyer and Clover makes for highly entertaining reading. Not only are Clover quirks laugh out loud funny but the immediate attraction and growing friendship make this a totally believable and swoon worthy story-telling. Add in controlling and over bearing parents and you’ve got yourself a recipe for a perfect contemporary romance.

THE NEGOTIATOR is a flat out sweet and endearing. Emotionally invested from the start, I couldn't help but love Clover aka Jane. What EVERY contemporary romance should be, Flynn balances the humor and conflict, the swooning and the steam to make a fantastic read.

I have to admit I was totally taken by surprise with the puppet master of this entire event and love how Flynn played it so well.

I received this ARC copy of The Negotiator from Entangled Publishing, LLC. This is my honest and voluntary review. The Negotiator is set for publication April 24, 2017.

4 - "You're you and I'm me..." Stars!

Hang on to your knickers ladies, the Carlyle brothers are in town, and boy do they know how to endear themselves to you.

Although The Negotiator gives us Sawyer’s story, I was just as intrigued by Hudson, and will say straight off the bat that I hope the author has his story in the pipeline especially after the little tease she left us dangling with in the epilogue for this story.

"I never would have guessed you didn’t have any experience working with your hands…"

This was an easy going read once things got going, I found the first half a little on the pedestrian side, but the second half really grabbed and pulled me into the story that was playing out with uptight Sawyer and go-with-the-flow Clover. I was reminded a little of the films Sabrina (Sawyer reminded me of Harrison Ford's character in that film sooo much) and Pretty Woman with certain aspects of the story, although Clover is 100% not a Hollywood Boulevard hooker!

"The next six weeks are going to last forever."

As you would expect with an opposites attract story, it doesn’t take long for things to develop with our couple. Clover pushes Sawyer to see that there is life outside of work and the office, while Sawyer pushes her to realize that being settled and living your life in one place doesn’t equal failure or settling for second best.

"I’m trying to compliment you…"

"...That’s not exactly your strong point."

The banter is great, the sexy-times diverse and the secondary characters really kept everything moving along and entertaining, this is basically your faux-mance that turns into a romance, with a few (predictable) surprises thrown in along the way. The author developed everything really well though, and I hope against hope that Hudson gets a book soon.

"Attraction isn’t logical."

ARC provided by the publisher via SocialButterfly PR, and it was my absolute pleasure to provide the above honest review in exchange.

This audiobook restored my faith in audiobooks.

I had so much fun listening to this, giggling and crying.

I love a befuddled "Alpha" hero who tries to get his way and thinks that he's all that but just cannot win over the heroine.

This dude is a workaholic and his family is worried about him. Do I acknowledge that introducing a significant other as a solution to him overworking doesn't make sense? Yes, I do. However, I just loved it anyway!

His brother set him up with "buffer" candidates to help him avoid his mom's matchmaking attempts. Along comes Clover, who is very confident and competent. Her résumé makes her look like a flake as she is constantly looking for a new adventure, but all of her experiences have taught her a lot! And she's fully prepared to take down this dude that thinks he knows everything.

This book is called "The Negotiator" because their whole relationship is built on the negotiations of her getting the job and asking for what she wants and demanding the best from him.

The guy has a problem with being able to articulate his feelings. He comes off as an asshole because he often stuff his emotions and says out loud things that are very prickly. Sadly, this includes the time when he starts falling in love with her and ends up being a jerk.

This is not perfect. They both use some therapy but I felt like the character development and relationship development was a lot of fun. And I loved his last grand gesture. It was very them.

Safety deets
- No other women or other men. His mom wants to set him up with other women. He is not interested and there really isn't much drama around that.
- Neither are virgins nor are they promiscuous. We don't hear about past relationships
- There is no negative motivation, however, they get into a fake relationship thinking it will be a quick one and done. So, there is a third act breakup of sorts but it mostly stems from them not understanding that the other person wants it to be more permanent. They could communicate more, but still super satisfying.
- They use condoms every time but there is a pregnancy scare when one breaks.
- The ending has us seeing them happy together three years later with the idea that the next book might be about his brother.

The book synopsis seemed promising but the book was anything but it.

First, the author attempted to seem worldly in her knowledge of other countries/languages but failed. Singapore for instance is a first world country with English being the language of instruction in the country. Yes we do speak other languages but English is the first language of most people. If you've got an education in Singapore, you would know that it is all in English other than if you were learning a foreign language related subject. Therefore, the author's assumption that you need Malay to communicate to Singaporeans and we need people like Clover to come and teach English as a... what... charity work? is laughable. It just highlights the author's poor attempt and lack of research which is an insult to readers from that part of the world, although she may have been able to propagate her misleading information to people who do not know about Singapore.

Secondly, her attempts at using foreign language is... poorly done. Throwing a few colloquial words in foreign language does not indicate that the person is worldly with an ability to speak multiple languages. All it shows is a desperate attempt to create a character that seem to be multilingual.

All in all, a huge turnoff. DNF at 13% because I can't believe the crap I'm reading. Giving this book up until I decide one day I'll be brave enough to attempt this shit again.

Oh boy … did the negotiator suck. NO, NOT THE BOOK, the negotiator himself. He was out-witted, out-talked and, definitely, out-maneuvered by one hell of a smart, sexy and funny woman. Sawyer Carlyle met his match when he met Clover Lee and she let him know it every chance she got.

I loved this story … I laughed, cursed and then laughed some more as the story unfolded. Jane “Clover” Lee was magnificent. Sawyer Carlyle was an ass. But, when they got together and negotiated the terms of their agreement, they never imagined that boots would be hidden, that flea markets would be fun and Romcom would be their downfall. But, pulling the wool over everyone’s eyes about their engagement was hard work and had to be as real as it could get. It became harder and harder for them to ignore their feelings and, when push finally came to shove … well, like I said Sawyer was an ass. Yes, don’t worry, he does redeem himself and does take a good hard look himself to see everything that he missed and could miss.

Avery Flynn rates very high on my “gotta read” list. I am thrilled that I got to read and review this light-hearted, fun story that she penned. I could always count on her to give me a good story. I know that it will be fluent, the words will flow right off the pages, have just a little angst and a whole lot of hot loving. If you are looking for a fun read that will keep you smiling, by an author who knows just how to keep you invested in a story, pick up The Negotiator.

This was an interesting, very sexy book, with good psychological drama and intriguing characters.

Sawyer Carlyle is dedicated to his business-and has no room in his life for anything else, particularly not the society women his mother has been parading in front of him in hopes to get him married.

Enter his brother, who advertises for a personal buffer for Sawyer to keep distractions at a minimum. That is how Clover (Jane) Lee finds herself in Sawyer's waiting room scunched up among a bunch of muscle-bound bodyguard types. Clover, who at first appears to be a very free spirit, finds herself hired after she backs down Mama and two more society girls. But Clover has her own negotiating skills and finds a way to make Sawyer forget about business for a time. When the attraction between the two of them proves irresistible, they enter into a fake engagement, but it comes with its own set of challenges. Can these two unlikely lovers actually find a way to make a relationship work?

I loved Clover. She's bright, funny, and holds her own with the determined Sawyer. He comes across a bit cold at first, but it soon becomes apparent that he's just very bad at interpersonal relations.

This was a fun, flirty read and while this is a new to me author, I will be looking for more of her books.

4 stars, maybe even 4.5 stars. I really enjoyed reading this one. I frequently found myself smiling while listening to the audiobook - this story gave me lots of good feels.

IMO, the star of this story is the heroine. She’s an awesome, smart, and strong FMC. She’s got a lot of witty responses, she’s quick thinking, and she’s *really* not afraid to speak her mind. Basically, she’s everything I want in a heroine. She does have some frustrating preconceived notions - but she manages to overcome those mostly because of her own realizations. The hero is also pretty great, he just didn’t shine quite as brightly as she did.

Overall, this is a really good story and I’m hoping I’ll find something else by this author to listen to. Definitely choose the audiobook of this, if you can. It’s very well narrated.

Thanks Elizabeth for your excellent review, because I know I wouldn’t have read this otherwise, and I’m so happy I did.

DNF 13%.

This is one of those superficial books that is all about the superficial. Good looking rich powerful hero that looks good on paper, whom is arrogant, conceited, self-important and weak. (I mean, he is a grown men who needs a female to run interference with his mum......hand packed much? Sorry, a Mummy's boy gets all the disdain from me.)

Flaky heroine whom is weak, inconsistent and insecure.

I understand this is fiction, but I find it annoying when the plots doesn't make logical sense, and facts are wrong. The hero mentioned he can use the heroine's ability to speak Malay during contract negotiations for a building development in Singapore with Mr Lim. From my experience working with Developers from around the world, I must agree that knowing the local language is a huge advantage in contract negotiation. However, from my numerous dealing with Singapore Developers for more than 10 years, I honestly can not recall a single incident that requires the use of Malay language. The official language in Singapore is English, and that is the language that all the meetings that is conducted. Mr Lim, whom has a Chinese surname, is assumed to be Chinese, for contract negotiation purpose, wouldn't Chinese/Mandarin be more useful??? Call me a nerd, but things like this gets on my nerve BIG time. On top of the facts being wrong, it also doesn't make any logical sense...

Yeah! Sorry I do not like this book. It appears to be a light-hearted fun read, that many enjoys, it is simply not for me. I have read other books from this author that are enjoyable, so I won't give up on Ms Flynn yet...

I don't have much of a review in me for this.
I was kinda disappointed.
It felt like a big, that's it? more than anything.

For a book that's called, The Negotiator, there wasn't a lot of negotiating. Sad, cause that was my favourite part of the entire book. Clover outsmarting and beating Sawyer at his own game.
Apart from the masterful negotiating it was pretty run of the mill really, I did like that final proposal though, kinda daring. xD

Ah yes. The steam was high in this one. :P
Not sure if that's true with all of Avery's books (this is the only one I've read) but yeah...

‼️Smart witty and sassy h
‼️Grumpy/ Sunshine
‼️A man that doesn’t understand his feelings ….AT ALL 🤦🏼‍♀️
‼️A reluctant to fall in love h and H
‼️Fun banter
‼️Fun, Entertaining and Very Sweet Romance

-Sawyer is all about business. He runs a billion dollar business and all he wants to focus on is his next big deal. But his mother is determined to get him married which he doesn’t have time for.

-His brother tries to help by sending him applicants who could be a buffer between Sawyer and his mom. But once he meets Clover instead of a buffer he decides he wants her as a fake fiancé.

-Clover has a fear of settling down or getting trapped so when Sawyer offers her this chance to be his fake fiancé she wants to accept cause…. Hey it will be a fun time while also providing her the funds to travel to Australia.

💯They both have certain expectations for this business deal so ….LET THE NEGOTIATIONS BEGIN.

❣️Things I Liked/Loved❣️

💯This was a very unexpected and highly enjoyable read. It was fun, witty, sexy, steamy and heartfelt.

❤️‍🔥These two! The banter and chemistry is OFF THE CHARTS GOOD. They are drawn to each other like magnets and just can’t help themselves.

❤️I love how Clover really was his PERFECT match and vise versa. They were perfect together if only they could both get over their own shit long enough to see it.

🔥🔥There are some really steamy sex scenes 🔥🔥

❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥Their Negotiations❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥

💕I loved their MANY sweet moments as their relationship grows it’s was so enduring. They really just had their own love language.

Things I Did 💔 Not Like
‼️This was a 5 star read until about 80% mark when things started to be more frustrating than enjoyable…….

-They never get to enjoy the good times cause it’s always followed by something looming or them pulling away.

-I ABSOLUTELY DO NOT LIKE when authors push the resolution to the romance to THE VERY LAST PAGE OF THE BOOK. This is a pet peeve of mine. So it may not bother others but I can’t stand it. I wanted some breathing room after they FINALLY get their shit together. But we don’t get that here.
Literally it’s LAST PAGE RECONCILIATION THEN BAM EPILOGUE.

-Up to about 80% I was ok with the push pull… 😤although Sawyer was pushing it with me sometimes….. but I got frustrated that they couldn’t communicate at this point. Plus after their break up Sawyer was acting like a child and totally giving up even after multiple talks w his family and friends.
💯I felt like a man that is so fierce in business and always gets what he wants wouldn’t just give up so quick. Especially after he talked with his mom and the solution was so clear and easy. Frustrating!

🥀 Hero:
Sawyer - runs a billion dollar business and needs a fake fiancé to get his mom off his back.
He’s the strong and silent type. He doesn’t express his feelings well or even understand them.
He’s very cheeky and flirty with the h.
She definitely brings him out of his serious work shell.
He just can’t seem to stay away from the h and at times when he fucks up he definitely fixes things.

🦋 Heroine:
Clover ☘️ THE STAR OF THIS BOOK!
She was a great h….
A free spirit. She travels and explores the world. She doesn’t want to be locked down and she definitely doesn’t want love and marriage.
She was witty, fun, flirty and didn’t take herself or her situations too seriously. But she also has a heart of gold and is vulnerable with the H.
Shes the PERFECT match for Sawyer!!!

💭 POV:
Third person duel

🎧 The audio book was AMAZING! 5 stars!! The narrator was so good with the voices that I didn’t even miss having a man’s voice for the hero. And she was great with emotions as well.

🔥 Burn Rate:
Medium Fast- these two are magnets that can’t keep their hands off each other 🤭

😡/😍 Angst level:
Medium esp towards the end

❤️‍🔥 Sexy times & Descriptive sex:
YES YES YES 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
5 Stars for their chemistry and steamy sexy times.

🌓 Push/Pull:
Yes both push away at different times
I would say it’s pretty equal although the H has some real asshole moments for sure.

☠️ OW/OM Drama:
Some minor OWD - his mom is trying to shove OW in his face to get him married. The H isn’t interested.

🤮 OW/OM Sex / Fluid or DNA Exchange:
None

🤬 Cheating:
None

👰🏼‍♀️ Virgins:
None
Neither are V
H- no real history other than he keeps is casual and doesn’t let them spend the night. Except he does with the h💕!!!!
He isn’t giving manwhore vibes BUT he is definitely experienced.

h- it’s been 6 months since her last relationship. She doesn’t do casual ssx.

-Condoms

⛈️Separation/ 3rd Act Breakup:
Yes! It was highly frustrating for me but only last 4-5 days maybe a week.

Safety⚠️Triggers🗡️:
Death of a parent
Commitment issues
Fake engagement
Condom breaks- pregnancy scare

🌈Epilogue:
YES! It was sweet, 3 years later married with a kid. I wish we got more and that it was longer.

🥂HEA:
Yes ❤️

My opinion is just that… MY OPINION.
I know we all get passionate about our favorite reads and characters but we should respect each opinions a thoughts. ~Thank you

'The Negotiator' by Avery Flynn. This is the story of Jane "Clover" Lee and Sawyer Carlyle.
Clover has applied for the job of 'buffer' that Sawyer's brother put in the paper. Clover likes to be independent and doesn't want a permanent job. So with those two things she has ended up doing a lot of odd jobs like a 'snake milker'. So Clover thinks this will be the next new experience for her.
Sawyer is the oldest son of a very large business that is family owned. His father has died about three years ago and now his mother has come out of mourning with the tunnel thought of getting Sawyer married. So Sawyer is now faced with a determine mother and beautiful but no personality women being thrown at him. Sawyer just wants to run the family company and help make sure his family is okay. After having a few drinks with his brother he happens to joke that he needs a 'buffer' to deal with his mother's marriage minded women. But his brother surprised him by putting a ad in the paper and now Sawyer is having to let these people no there is no job. When he goes to tell them Clover speaks up and shows him that he may need her after all.
This was funny yet very sweet romance that I couldn't put down. I loved also the secondary characters which makes this book and extra joy to read.

This was okay. It wasn’t an “I have to know what happens next” kind of story, but it wasn’t horrible. It had moments that were good, but the pacing of the story was off. There was ‘dead air’ moments and it needed something to keep the readers intrigued. Also, some of the angst was too fabricated and fell flat.

It had a good start and I liked the quirkiness of Clover. It was a nice quick read. It was enjoyable.

Caffeinated Dates with The Negotiator

First Date: I loved how our first date began and right away I adored, quirky, activist and adventurer Jane "Clover" Lee. Sawyers Mom has decided he needs to be wed and has been driving him crazy with a parade of potential partners. Mrs. Carlye is a force and Sawyer's younger brother unbeknownst to him decides to help him out by running an ad for a personal buffer. The set up is hilarious and how Clover got the job had me grinning and settling in.

Second Date: They say opposites attract. That is if they don't kill each other first and Clover may just kill Sawyer. In one moment she has gone from personal buffer to fake fiance and finds herself rooming with one deliciously hot workaholic. If you are looking for a humorous, light, sexy romance you'll want to download THE NEGOTIATOR. I loved the contract, the build up of heat, the humor and HGTV moments.  I love seeing Sawyer relax and loosen up his tie. Little side threads and secondary characters added depth while giving us a better understand of our couple.

Third Date: While the storyline isn't full of surprises, the refreshing characters and playful moments as the romance moved into something more had me flipping the pages. The cliche' drama that unfolded annoyed me, but it did allow for growth of character in both Clover and Sawyer. Reveals as to characters actions particularly those of secondary characters delivered touching moments. The ending was adorkable and I enjoyed the epilogue immensely.

So so reading. I was hoping for more sassy from Clover. More free spirited. I want more flirty banter, more steam on the sex. And Sawyer as a tough negotiator seems always lose on everything. Even with his mother.

And i think the author not done a thorough research on the countries mention on the book.

Overal this is OK read.

The Negotiator kept me company with laughter and steam on my way to and from work. Fun, hot and feisty, it kept things light.

Review - (un)Conventional Bookviews
Story:
The Negotiator helped me laugh while commuting - which is not that frequent an occurrence really. I leave the house before it's light out, and arrive very early at work to prepare things. Getting prepared with Sawyer and Clover made everything lighter.

Because his mom was always setting him up with socialites, Sawyer and his brother came up with the idea to hire a buffer. One person to keep his mom - and the bridezillas to be - at arm's length. Only, Sawyer's brother made sure a fun woman was the most likely candidate. One who had worked in several different countries. And who didn't stay too long in the same job.

Sparks flew as soon as Sawyer and Clover met, and they got themselves into some unlikely situations by pretending fairly early on they were engaged. None of them thought they'd actually fall in love, but it proved inevitable - even when the odds were against them.
Characters:
Clover was such a fun character! When she was stressed, she cursed in foreign languages. And while she might not have a very strong formal education, she definitely had street smarts. And heart. Plus enough loyalty to make things interesting.

Sawyer had a plan for everything. Hot, rich, with a lot of responsibilities, falling in love was not part of the plan. But Clover was just so... irresistible.

Sawyer's mom made me so mad at first, however, when I got to know her better, I totally got where she came from.
Writing style :
Written in dual points of views, I got to share the inner thoughts of both Clover and Sawyer. The pace was perfect, not slow, but not too fast, either.
Feels :
I laughed out loud more than once. And sometimes, I had to be careful with the volume when I was at a red light, because once Sawyer and Clover let go - they really let go. The happiness, the anguish and the doubts they both made me feel just made the whole story more realistic - even with such a flimsy starting point as a personal buffer.
Narration:
It's the first book I've listened to that's narrated by Stephanie Rose, and she did a great job! She brought Sawyer and Clover to life. And she brought both feeling and poise to the story.

I thoroughly enjoyed THE NEGOTIATOR by Avery Flynn and highly recommend it. The premise, is basically the fake engagement (so the busy workaholic billionaire can avoid his mother's marriage traps) where two people who seem opposite in every way are perfect for one another and eventually find their unexpected HEA.

Sawyer Carlyle is the oldest son who feels the full weight of the responsibility of his family and of his family's business after his father's recent and unexpected passing. His mother is worried about him and his sole focus on the business so she is constantly shoving possible brides in his way. He doesn't want to hurt his mom, but he also doesn't have time for dating. He makes an off-hand comment to his brother, Hudson, about wishing he had a buffer to keep his mother and her bride candidates at bay. His brother runs with it to the annoyance of Sawyer.

Jane "Clover" Lee is one of the Buffer candidates Hudson brings into the office. She is a free-spirit who takes odd jobs (very odd and random jobs) merely to pay for her need to make a difference while at the same time experiencing different cultures and places around the world, for instance teaching English to poor children in Singapore. She is by design rootless and carefree, not to be mistaken as flighty or naïve. She can negotiate with the best of them and easily out maneuvers first Helene Carlyle and then Sawyer himself.

This story was delightful at every turn and mostly due to the charm, wit and intelligence of Clover. Ms Flynn fully develops her characters and shows their wide emotional range, drawing you in not just to their outward personalities, but the inner reasons for how they became that way. The dialogue is well-written with plenty snark, laughs, and also some seriously touching moments. Overall a great read that I didn't want to put down and read in one sitting! 4.5 stars

um ... so this was cute but .... I couldn't connect with the story.

plus ... the whole foreign language turrets thing was distracting, and I didn't see the point.
I mean the girl just spewed random foreign words out of her mouth at random times and none it made sense to me.
also ... a little research on the whole what language foreign countries actually speak wouldn't hurt before you write that into a story.

spoiler alert: Malay is NOT the main language of Singapore so why would it be useful in negotiations? I dunno, entirely too much fantasy land for me. I like my fiction realistic and accurate so ....

New to me author, Avery Flynn blew me away with her latest release, THE NEGOTIATOR. This was such a FUN, ENTERTAINING, and SEXY read! I was surprised how quickly I fell for Sawyer and Clover. Two VERY different personalities coming together and developing something truly special. This was truly some unputdownable goodness!

"Sawyer Carlyle, are you trying to flatter your way into my panties?"

"Are you even wearing any?"
Quick wit, hilarious banter, and sizzling hot chemistry made this a romance you do not want to miss out on. The push/pull relationship that these two had was absolutely addicting! It was a laugh-out-loud, sexy romance that had my toes curling with every turn of the page. It's stubborn, workaholic billionaire versus stubborn, but delightful free-spirit. They are a match made in heaven, they just don't know it yet.

"This will be slow." ... "There will be foreplay." ... "There will be kissing." ... "There will be no negotiating."

Oh you guys, the chemistry just flew off the pages! It has this element of a love/hate relationship, but it's quirky, charming, and a boat-load of FUN! I devoured it cover to cover and you couldn't wipe the huge smile off of my face. It's a slow-burn of a romance, but that didn't take away from the intensity of it all. It's sexy and sweet. It's full of hilarity and with. It was a fantastic 'opposites attract' romance that had me bursting at the seams. I think Avery Flynn just earned herself a fan for life!

The Negotiator was such a good read.
I loved the storyline, the characters Sawyer and Clover were fun, sweet, quirky, passionate and watching their relationship develop kept me turning the pages, loved them!

description

Sawyer and Clover were both such wonderful and entertaining characters.
They made me laugh, they made me sad, they touched my soul with their honesty and heart and they frustrated me with their stubbornness.
These two were total opposites but the more time they spent together the more they found they enjoyed being in each others world.
And did I mention how hot these two were?
Sawyer and Clover had amazing chemistry and boy oh boy did they make my iPad sizzle *fans self*

Another plus was how much I enjoyed the secondary characters, they each added to the storyline and for me it was an added bonus.

Overall, The Negotiator is a smart, fun and very entertaining read that will not disappoint, I highly recommend it.

Avery Flynn is a talented author who once again has given us a well written storyline that will bring out all the feels and leave you well satisfied and eagerly awaiting her next book release.

Sawyer, and his younger brother, Hudson, are relieved to see their Mom has begun to act like her normal self again after mourning their Dad. Unfortunately, her new focus is finding Sawyer a wife, and she has no qualms completely hijacking him whenever possible with candidates. Hudson, through his laughter, decides to act on a drunken statement of Sawyer's and places an ad for a buffer. Yeah, that sounds kinky LOL, but it's literal. The new employee can stop the brigade of boring women, and Sawyer can focus on what he truly cares about, the family business.

Clover, as unique as her name, is all about adventure, but to fund her next one, she needs another temporary job, her speciality. She sees the ad for a personal buffer, she can't help but be intrigued. When the gorgeous man appears, as does a surprising trio of women, Clover decides to let her actions speak for themselves and runs the unwelcome guests off.

“Are you saying that my son would rather work than go have lunch with his mother?” - Helene Carlyle, aka Sawyer's Mom

Sawyer, the man always with a plan, wasn't sure what to do. The lady, he really should buy her something for the miracle she just pulled off, got his mother to leave, and she took those two boring Barbies with her. She's perfect for the part and he hires her, and enjoys their negotiations.

At the first event they attend together, Sawyer admittedly makes a few missteps and Clover doesn't hesitate to verbally put him in his place and he...likes it. It's a rare occurrence and yeah, it was sexy. However, as he begins to realize her true worth in her role, he takes it a step further, and eagerly anticipates the consequences of announcing their engagement. Oh man, the sparks are shooting out of Clover's eyes and Sawyer is enthralled.

"I’m not lying to everyone I know for you.” - Clover
“Think of it as a temporary truth.” - Sawyer

As Sawyer and Clover spend more time together, and doing couple like things as stated per their napkin contract, it doesn't take long for the lines to blur, and they realize not only do they enjoy each other's company, and their chemistry is explosive. However, Sawyer doesn't view things as Clover does, and vice versa, which leaves her feeling as if everything is one-sided. Which is easy to do as Sawyer continually words things wrong, leaving him with the certainty he's missed something.

Can two people, both positive love and marriage isn't for them, admit their views have changed? What happens when it starts feeling real? Will they take a chance on forever? Will others believe their fake engagement? Will Sawyer's Mom realize he's taken before he does? Will Sawyer want to continue their relationship, making it real, for the right reasons? Or will a sense of duty be the cause of it? Can Clover see the love Sawyer has for her? Or will he lose her, leaving her with the heartbreak of believing he views her as nothing more than a teammate, so to speak? Can these two find their way to admitting love exists and they have it?

One-click now and follow along as Sawyer and Clover, two very different people, discover they're compatible in all the ways that matter. Safety information - I'm labeling this as no OW drama. Yes, Sawyer's Mom tries to foist wife candidates on him, but he wants nothing to do with them. I don't remember him even talking to any of them and we're "introduced" to a couple. He isn't a manwhore...I love this fact.

I was looking forward to reading this book coz the blurb had me hooked and I was not disappointed!!
Clover Lee is a free bird. She loves traveling around the world with no strings attached. When she's hired by Sawyer to act as a buffer between him and his marriage-focused mother, it's just a job financing her upcoming trip to Australia.
By evening though, she's his fake fiancé. I love these tropes. Well they are scorching hot together but so wildly different as people. Can they overcome their ideals and different ideas of their future to follow their love.
Definitely a hilarious read, Clover has some very funny and sweet moments. Highly recommended.
