The Torn Duet #1

Torn Between Two

Rate this book
I believe in fairy tales — the kind where a knight in shining armor sweeps me off my feet. Coming from a broken home, fairy tales housed the hope I clung to. Never in my life did I imagine two knights coming into my life— two knights that wore very different armor.

A rockstar versus a lawyer.
Fast and furious versus deliberate and calculated.
Intense and passionate versus strong and devoted.
Chaos versus stability.

I fell in love with one in the craziness of a concert.
I fell in love with the other in the silence of his compassion.

And now I am Torn Between Two.

TORN BETWEEN TWO: This is my first time reading anything by this author but I have to confess I just had to sign up for this because of that damn cover!! My name is Kat and I am a cover hoe!!

This took me a while to get into, first chapter I didn't connect with the story, it felt like Sam was well under what her age stated her to be, an immaturity level came across, but as my reading progressed I connected with her character after more details of her upbringing came up in the story, I myself know from personal experience what it is like to be a mother to your own mother so I connected with Sam on whole new level of understanding.

From about chapter 2 I got into the groove of the story and I was hooked, I mean hook line and sinker hooked!! Seconds, minutes, hours my world outside of this book ceased to exist, I was living through the eyes of Sam, the highs and lows of being with a rockstar, knowing she was well out of her element, sitting on the edge of my seat for it all to come crashing and burning had me biting my nails, and the love I felt for Josh the other boy in this triangle of epic proportions, my heart and mind at war with each other with the turmoil of wondering who she would choose in the end. Who would be her knight in shining armour?

This author took me on such a wild ride I never wanted to get off, until she kicked me over the edge with the cliffy we're left dangling over!! GAH!! I must also admit I even yelled a bit over the unfairness of it all..

NOW FOR MY REVIEW

TORN BETWEEN TWO: We’re first introduced to twenty three year old Samantha Clarke, a pastry sous chef extraordinaire, who wholeheartedly believes in fairytales and hopes that one day like any fairy tale ever written her knight in shining armour will come rushing in and sweep her off her feet.

Needless to say she never anticipated two men falling for her

Her first knight in shining armour comes in the form of Hawke Calvin from Def Deception the bad boy rocker whom she’s stalked and lusted over for years. This duo met after Hawke finished his concert in Chicago.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

In exchange for an autograph he demanded one kiss..A kiss that left her breathless and gasping for more.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic He tasted like cigarettes, and one hundred percent bad boy

The attraction between these two is all-consuming, one look, one touch, one kiss, one night of passion led to more.

I had fallen for a rock star and couldn't seem to find my way out of these murky waters.

You know going into this that we’ll be stepping into a controversial love triangle of epic proportions.

A rockstar versus a lawyer.
Fast and furious versus deliberate and calculated.
Intense and passionate versus strong and devoted.
Chaos versus stability.

She meets Josh unexpectedly whilst out shopping for a pair of heels to rival the outfit she’s wearing to a wedding. He was hot, and charming but she didn’t want it to go any further as she’d just shared a night of passion with Hawke and was unsure if it would go any further.

Hawke was rough and sexy while Josh was stable and sweet.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic With Hawke, when I was with him, I was on the highest of highs, but when we weren't together. I was on the lowest of lows.

One is dark and intense, the other devoted and charismatic. One calls her sunshine and the other calls her Princess.

To wrap up my review, if you're after a book filled up to the brim with all those feels I highly recommend this book, the angst, the want, need to know who she was going to choose, the anxiety, then this book is definitely worth you one clicking come release day.

Genre: Romance
disclaimer 1

This is the first time I've read anything from this author and now, she's got me hooked! I mean right from the very first chapter- I read the entire book in one sitting, I didn't stop until I finished it and once that happened I went online, bought the next book and read that book until that book finished. Can you see me rambling on and on? I loved this book! I don't usually like love triangle romances.. I mean someone always ends up getting hurt at the end..tsk tsk.. but I loved this book!

Now, for the review part of this book..where do I start?
Samantha Clarke aka Sammy or Sam, aged 23 is a pastry sous chef extraordinaire at Sheldon's Italia and a huge fan of Hawke Calvin, the lead from the band Def Deception. She has 'set' goals in life (To study at Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts), she's serious and a tad odd, yet compassionate, empathetic and honestly... a romantic at heart.
Hawke Calvin is the green-eyed rocker that epitomizes all things rock and roll. He's audacious, dark, gutsy, presumptuous at times, yet has a sweet, gentle side that harbors the raw pain and sadness from his past.
Josh Stanton goes to law school by day and is a shoe sales man by night. He's the brown-eyed man with an appearance that screamed seriousness, good boy, guy next door but he was a jokester.
Hawke has a beauty that's instant and ruggedly hot while Josh is, like the author said, beautifully handsome.
Samantha and Hawke's 'relationship' is dangerous, fast and naughty whereas her 'relationship' with Josh feels safe, comforting and tender. Josh and Sam have this banter between them thats really cute and light hearted with a dash of sensuality whereas with Hawke, everything is fast and raw.
Sam bonded with both Hawke and Josh because they had similar affinities to heartache and betrayal that she went through.
Even with the fame and glory, Hawke was lonely. Over drinks he tell her " I'll tell you about my scum if you tell me yours". And thats when everything came pouring out..all the inner secrets and I think thats when they built this unbreakable bond between them that was going to be there regardless of whatever happens.
Josh and Sam share the bond of losing their own mother. On a lighter note I must say that Josh, dear Josh, his 'pick up' lines are so cheesy yet so endearing. He's the type of guy who'll always be there for you.. and a little spoiler alert here- he was! I was hating Hawke for abandoning Sam and was silently..ok..fine.. quite loudly cursing Hawke and cheering Josh!
FYI... Major Cliffhanger!! Be prepared!
This book is all about Choices... and I for one am so glad I made the Choice of reading this book!

4.5 new1

PS: A free copy of this book was given to me in exchange for an honest review from Netgally

PPS: I admit I wanted to read this book after seeing the cover..I mean..look at him! hahaha!!!!!
PPPS: Chloe her BFF is crazy and gutsy..I mean Tilly Willy?! hahaha ( you'll know it when you read it).

Torn Between Two: The Torn Duet

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I can't stop smiling! It's like a high I cannot go down to. It feels like I was in love all over again.
Hawke is the dark knight and Josh is the contrast.
And at the same time I really want to cry with Josh's situation and just to be clear I am Team Josh here ladies and gents! No girl, even if it's near euphoria level of horniness has to feel that way beacuse a woman deserves better than a Hawke personality.
Can you imagine you will be left on the city alone with periodically texts and calls from your rockstar boyfriend who can't even acknowledge you in public?
This is unfair, it got me really rilled up I feel bad for Sam.
I know how it feels to be left out and it's never a good thing. I also know how it feels to beg attention to the person who has feelings for another. It breaks my heart and I really hope Sam picks Josh in the final book.
5 Fat stars for this baby!!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This was a very entertaining first book. I wish I connected more with Sam, Hawke and Josh but for some reason I didn't. I was interested and invested in the story. What I liked about this story was Sam's involvement with Hawke and Josh. These two very different men who evoked strong feelings within her. Also how they both brought out different sides to her. Sam certainly had chemistry with both Hawke and Josh.

Sam also had her baggage from her past weighing her down which was filled with loss and sadness. Something that also connected her with Hawke and Josh. These two men were great in their own way and definitely made Sam realize her predicament.
Sam's situation being "involved" with two men was captured flawlessly. In that sense I connected with her and understood her struggles.
Even though I wasn't wooed by Hawke or Josh I definitely have picked out who I think would complement and work well with Sam. Who is it?

The pace and story flowed effortlessly. Kayla's prose was addictive and poignant. The ending was fabulous, ending with a cliffhanger which only made me more excited to read the sequel.

Probably 4-4.5 Stars. This is NOT your typical rocker story!

This book was chosen for me by Leslie in our Pick for Me challenge. I flew through this book and holy cliffhanger!

Samantha is a relationship kind of girl, focusing on her career as a pastry chef. When she goes to a concert and gets the chance to meet her idol, Hawke Calvin, lead singer of Def Deception, she is totally starstruck. The beginning was a little over the top and hard to believe with their initial meeting, and this is why I only gave it 4 stars. But, I stuck with it and was glad I did. Why, you ask? One word, Josh! He made this book for me! His charm, humor, goofiness, sincerity......sigh....he was perfect in every way. I'm not sure Sam even deserved his friendship, but he fell hard for her. There were times I wanted to shake her and smack some sense into her!

Don't want to give too much away, but know this book ended on a cliffhanger and you will no doubt be jumping into book 2 like i did if you read this one!

Thank you Leslie!

Torn Between Two is supposed to be an angsty love triangle between a rock star and a lawyer. Unfortunately, it’s a poorly constructed romance novel that tries too hard to be a love triangle without putting in the time to develop the relationships.

Torn Between Two follows Samantha as she crashes an after party for her favourite band. There she meets the leader singer and a connection is instantly formed. Samantha and Hawke’s relationship is that of a typical rock star romance, full of other women, anger, angst, and drugs. Kayla does a decent job of setting up their connection, but does little to develop it into anything believable, especially when the third point of the love triangle is introduced.
Enter Josh, a lawyer in training who’s doing everything in his power to forge a different path than what his grandfather is expecting of him. Unfortunately for Josh, he doesn’t hold a candle to Hawke. Josh’s introduction is the least manly experience I’ve ever read and his pickup lines are cringe worthy at best. On the other hand, Kayla spends a lot more time developing Samantha and Josh’s relationship. They have actual conversations and interactions despite how forced it feels.

Torn Between Two is a failed love triangle that would have been better had Kayla focused solely on Samantha and Hawke’s relationship. There are genuinely great moments between the two that are hot and angsty, but are overshadowed by the poorly developed love triangle.

Torn Between Two is the first of the duet that I will not be continuing.

*** ARC kindly provided for an honest review. ***

I'm still in a glass case of emotion. I read Torn Between Two in one sitting. I couldn't put it down.
I don’t read love triangles stories. Like ever.
When I have all these assumptions in my head, Mia Kayla proves me wrong. The writing was uplifting, enticing, and captivating. Be ready for the roller coaster of emotions. Once you get into the book, you won’t want to leave.

Samantha was at a point of her life, when she was still struggling about the pain she felt inside. Honest, caring and sassy, she was definitely endearing, attracting people with her witty charms and refreshing side. I appreciated how straightforward, true to herself she was, not playing a character, flaws and all.

When I read this book, I totally got it, how her heart could be torn between Hawke and Josh.

Two different souls, the sexy rock star and the grounded guy, and I had to admit that I was afraid of the turning events and how the author would manage this trio.
The one attainable and the other who could give her all, intense and wild for one and passionate and kind for the other. The fantasy and the reality. Two worlds apart.
Once again, it was high and right in the feels, challenging and giving everything.
Every moment stole my breath and took my heart away.

It was more than a rock star romance, so much more. All the freaking feels! It was so well written, bringing emotions to life. I swooned, I laughed and I almost cried. This is the kind of book that makes you live and feel in the moment intensely.

Torn Between Two is like the perfect dessert. At times smooth and rich and the next crunchy and layered. After you devour it, you want to lick your plate and then you're left craving more. Yup, it's that good. I could not put it down and finished it in less than a day.

I loved how perfectly imperfect all of the characters were. Samantha (Sam) is driven, caring, and witty, but underneath that she is still struggling to find herself and dealing with the pain of her past. Hawke is cocky, intense, and the over the top rock star, but he also is fighting the demons and temptations of stardom. Josh is sweet, funny, and loyal, but the path to his own happiness is riddled with family expectation and disappointment. Even though I am personally more team Josh, Mia Kayla made me fall in love with both men and I really could understand how Samantha could be so torn between the two of them. Hawke and Josh couldn't be more different, but they each bring out and provide Sam with something she is missing. My heart broke for and with each of them, but I also celebrated and felt their happiness as their walls fell away.

The book is told from Sam's POV, and though it helped make the story so much more relatable hearing her inner monologue, I would have loved to have chapters from the boys as well. Mia Kayla's writing was emotional and honest and this book gave me all the feels. I cannot wait to get my hands on book 2, Choosing Forever. Yes, this book ends with a cliffhanger, but I promise it's worth it. Go read this book now!

5 'Gawt-DAHHMN' Stars
(Rating and review for both books)

How do I keep this review short and still have it encapsulate every emotion this duet evoked in me? There's simply no way I can; I don't have that kind of skill. This duet packs so much! The Torn Duet fucked with my feelings. It was a roller coaster of emotions and I ate it ALL up. I'm a sucker for (well written) love-triangles and I’m happy to add another amazing one to my Goodreads shelf *cheers, pom-poms and all*

Mia Kayla tore me up with this story and like any good masochist, I say "thank you, ma'am, may I have another." I'm going to follow this author and check out her other books. Stalking skills engaged. The only bad thing I can say about this duet is that it's left me trying to decide which book it will replace in my Top 10 List. Fuuuck I suck at decisions!

To my buddies brave enough to read this, I have two words for ya: JOSH STANTON *whispers: he's not the guy on the cover*. He's hands-down the most perfect hero. Ever. An absolute angel from the book gods, sent down to grace my shelves, amen.

*****SPOILERS AHEAD*****

HEA? Yes
Cheating? Yes
DISCRETION ADVISED: It deals with issues of loss, cancer, drug addiction and depression

Warning:
For those that dislike love-triangles, this one might piss you off. I suggest you skip it.

It's January and I can tell you whole-heartedly that this book will be in my Top Ten for 2017.

Here's how I know:

This duet is in my Top Ten Books of All Time (as in one of the very best stories I've ever read).

This story is simply the most beautiful, uplifting, heart-breaking, love-affirming, soul-shattering roller coaster I've ever read. I can only say I am so beyond grateful that Mia Kayla took me on such a breath-taking ride. I'm not going to tell you this book is flawless because the beauty of this book is its flaws...its flawed characters, its flawed love, its flawed circumstances. I loved every single page in this story...even the ones I hated.

What blew me away, more than any other aspect of this book, is how much I LOVED each and every character. I think that's what made this story unforgettable. Sam is clearly torn between these two amazing and amazingly different men in her life, but you will be too. I understood Sam because I also loved them both. I adored Hawke and his crazy life and his beautiful words and intense love. But I also adored Josh and his calm strength and his beautiful heart and his compassionate love. Crap...now I'm tearing up just thinking about them. It's just stunning to me that Mia was able to make me love them both so completely. And Sam is a great character. There is nothing weak or selfish in her feeling for these two. She is a loving, caring, independent woman who has had her fair share of heart-break. She is in a situation that no woman would ever expect to find herself in and there are simply no easy answers. She is never careless with her feelings or callous with her love.

This is not a book about cheating, that's not what's going on here. It's a book about circumstances you don't plan and feelings you don't expect and people you never see coming, but who matter in ways you can't control. It's about the decisions you make and the decisions that are made for you. This book is about all the best parts and the worst parts of falling in love. It's about falling in love fast and falling in love slow and friendship and passion and hurt and heartache. It's about love.

This book is a love triangle, honestly the BEST love triangle I have ever read. It is NOT a menage or a threesome (Nothing wrong with those...I read them too. That's just not what this duet is). I know not everyone loves a triangle...read this one anyway. I know people like the concept of a once in a lifetime love that is like nothing the H/h have ever experienced before....read this book anyway. I know not everyone embraces the idea that you can love two different people for very different reasons at the same time....READ. IT. ANYWAY !!! I would absolutely hate to think that anyone would miss out on this absolutely breath-taking love story because they were afraid to take a chance on it or because they had a preconceived notion of what a love story needs to look like.

I just can't believe how freaking brilliant it is. I honestly laughed out loud, I ugly cried, I panicked, I screamed, I swooned, I hurt, I healed and I loved. THIS is why I read. This feeling right here....like I can't get enough and I never want it to end.

I am all for an angst filled love triangle. You know the kind filled with ex lovers and those wannabes who just seem to get in the way. Well, some of the elements are there but while reading I didn't get the scorch factor I was looking for.

So, small town girl Samantha (an aspiring pastry chef) finds herself having to make a choice between two very different guys. Should the small town girl choose the rudderless rocker or the soon to be lawyer? They all have a similar troubled past but as I go along the destination of the relationships seemed to be simple/straightforward. You know, the girl recognizes the good guy and proceeds with the relationship with that character. Well, that isn't the case here and I wish it had been. The reason, the story is missing a definite scorch factor. There isn't any heat jumping off the pages. You know that something about the book or characters that make the reader never want to put the book down. Though, Josh the lawyer's character is endearing, there isn't anything drool worthy about him ... yet. As for Hawke, I didn't get any heat off of him as well.

Toward the end of this installment I was definitely Team Josh (yep using some Twilight ish) and I just wanted to get back to his family drama. So, hopefully the next installment is about Josh and his family issues. Overall rating is 3.25.

Thank you to the author for proving this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

It is one of those books I tell myself not to read or read reviews from goodreads people when in doubt, but still I make massive mistake. It was not for me. PERIOD. God when will I learn not to do this to myself. I still have ticks from Molly Mcadams Taking chances...

This is first book in the duet. Heroine torn between two characters, one good and sweet and gullible and other bad, rock star, can not resist his charms. So everything is black or white just like in life. Ya right(that was sarcasm in case you missed it).
And do not let me forget perfect heroine. Triangle it is.

Decisions, decisions. So how would you choose between the hottest rock star in the world or the heir to a billion dollar company who wants to be a lawyer? Do you want the life of living with a man who always walks out on you to perform and who is also surrounded by groupies, booze and drugs or the steady sure thing with the lawyer who seems to always be there when you most need someone in your life? Granted I personally would have a hard time making any decisions but I would say Samantha was having the same problem which in turn made me feel like a ping pong ball going back and forth between these two men. The rock star who you used to have his posters on your bedroom wall back home at your parents’ house and has nicknamed you “Sunshine” or the soon to be lawyer who is walking away from the billion dollar family business in order to become the lawyer he wants to be and has nicknamed you “Princess” which is exactly how he treats her.

With as many times as Samantha has been torn between these two men the author has actually given Samantha some backbone as well. Her dream is to become a head pastry chef at an upscale restaurant and she is not willing to give up her dream for anyone. All three of them share a past that has shaped them into the people they now are. You have to prepare yourself because just when you think you have it all figured out and are sitting at the edge of your seat you run head long into a huge cliffhanger! I cannot wait to see what comes next.

I received this book as an ARC from NetGalley for a freely given and honest review.

I need more than 5 stars to rate this book!! I couldn't put it down and that ending. Shatter my heart to pieces. Seriously needing book 2 pronto to put my heart back together or at least piece it a little bit... Pretty Please.

This book will take you on a whirlwind of emotions. you will want to cry with the characters, be Sam's backbone when she needs it because you think shes being naive or just not seeing all the signs that are in front of her. But at the same time you understand how her heart can be torn between two completely different men, Hawke and Josh.

Hawke is the bad boy rock star that she fantasized about all through high school and still is addicted to their music.

Josh is more laid back someone you can see as your best friend and also someone who will give you everything before even thinking of himself. Hes content with being her friend "For Now" as he continues to say throughout the book.

While one of these men is unattainable but someone you cant say no to and the other is the one who can give you forever and keep the promise.

Two different worlds

Who will she choose? Can she choose just one? Will she choose the right one?

**DUAL REVIEW**

"He loved me. There was no doubt. He loved me with all of his being, and in that moment, in the silence, I knew I'd fallen for him, too."

I LOVE TRIANGLES. If you've followed me for any length of time, you would totally know this. I love the push and pull, the intense emotions from all parties involved, the undeniable draw to each person involved....because it's REAL! I don't really care for outright cheating; blatant disrespect for the person you are with. That's not the draw for me. The draw for me is the fact that even though you may be in a relationship, when your soulmate comes along, they make you question your understanding of love, your explanation of truth, your reality of the heart. THAT'S what I love. That's the draw for me.

The Torn Duet was my first read of Mia Kayla's, but it caught my eye because it was a TRIANGLE! Yes, admittedly, the trope sucked me right in. The part that actually piqued my interest was that she pitted a LAWYER and a ROCKSTAR against each other. How messed up is that? It's great, isn't it!!? HAHAHA!! I mean, let's think about this for a moment; could you just imagine the differences between these two?? Stability vs the unknowing; dominant vs playful; romantic vs wild rides. As I was reading it, I was seeing that I had it all wrong. While I was right about the wildness and the romance, the dominant and the playfulness, who knew that they both had it in spades!!? I loved seeing the different qualities they both had to offer. I could easily see how Sammy was stuck between both men. I can see how her heart was torn between these two and how she was powerless against her pull to each of them. Her internal struggles were loud, but the draw to "him" was eventually louder. I was a little nervous while reading it because it could have totally gone either way!!

HAWKE loved hard and fast. He always got what he wanted. He never settled and he never begged. If he wanted it, he got it. Period. His charisma was broad and his smile spoke to the masses. His confidence was sexy.

JOSH loved quick and with his whole being. He was a smooth operator with calculated moves and he knew patience was a virtue. He also knew what he wanted and was going to get it, no matter what. His sincerity was potent and his honesty was wholehearted.

Now, both of these men were literally sex on a stick, and both brought a different dynamic to their relationship with Sam. She was weak when it came to both of these guys. I wish I could say that I would have been stronger than her, but sometimes there are certain aspects to a man that speak to us that no one else will understand. I chose ONE man pretty early on, but I will be honest and say that I was IN IT for the long haul. The first book was a slow start for me and I had to get acquainted to Mia's style of writing and quirkiness with her comparisons, but it was a great introduction to their storyline. I had a knotted stomach from the very beginning of the second book until I finished it. That is when the story picked up for me and then I was nothing more than a wide-eyed, chocolate-cake-eating MESS. I read both of these books this weekend....and I'm not a fast reader at all! I was engrossed, and one thing Mia did was make sure to keep me guessing and creating a bond between each couple that had me biting my nails up until the very end. And it was an emotional ending, but very fitting. Whether you are #TeamHawke or #TeamJosh, they will both provide an emotional connection that makes you swoon hard.

Overall, Mia did a really good job introducing us to each man....allowing us to fall in love, and then throwing a wrench into the mix by providing us with emotional banter and consequences. Josh had stability while Hawke provided excitement. I saw the draw to both, problems and all. I saw Sam warring with herself, questioning logic and her heart. The questions and the unknowing and the uncertainty circled around, while she found herself entertaining the notion of each man. It was excitement mixed with fear. The first book, while starting out super shaky and had me a little concerned, finished up and rated a strong 3.5 star for me while the second book was a 4.5 star for me. The angst was great, and the finish of the their story was great.

I tried to wrap my head around the enormity of it all. What it meant, where it would lead us, when we’d see each other again. But thinking of it only made my head and heart and stomach hurt, all at the same time.

Love triangles aren't for everyone but I love them, all that angst and longing all those pent up emotions you can't beat them.
After attending a concert Sam gets to meet the band and more importantly Hawke her schoolgirl crush. At their first meeting he acts like the typical arrogant rockstar and he nicknames her his 'sunshine'. I think for Hawke Sam is the light in his crazy world of music women and drugs, when he looks at her he wants to be the man she deserves. Then there is Josh who is the complete opposite, he's steady reliable and when he looks at Sam he just gets her. Through the writing we see Josh fall deeply in love with her but Sam is conflicted she literally is torn between the two men.
I know who I want her with but I'm not going to say who, that's part of the fun with love triangles trying to figure out who they'll end up picking or maybe the decision will be made for them.

Ohhh! This book gave me so many feels! I have not swooned this hard in a long long time! It is no surprise that I love Mia Kayla and her writing style. Mia has this way of transporting her readers right into her books, you get lost right along in her stories with her characters.

What is surprising is that each and every one of Mia's books captured my heart and soul and left me feeling blissfully complete by the end. Mia is one of the few authors that can pull deep emotions from within me. From one chapter to a next, I can go through an array of emotions.

Let me make myself clear on what I think about love triangles. I HATE them like something fierce. I feel like many do not write them correctly and it drives me bonkers. With that being said, I LOVED this book so freaking much!! You really do fall in love with both men. They are polar opposites and leave not only Sam Torn Between the Two but you as the reader.

This was a beast of a book and I still devoured it in just a couple of days. I could not get enough of Sam, Hawke, and Josh. I laughed, I cried, and I wanted to toss my kindle more than once. Mia had me on pins and needles this entire book! AND I LOVED EVERY MINUTE OF IT!

When we first meet Sam she is headed to a concert and after party to meet her idol and the man she fantasizes about Hawke. She quickly caught Hawke's eye and became is Sunshine. The best drug on the planet.

"Do you want me to beg, Sunshine? That's not my usual style, but I would. For you."
<-- I won't lie I was swooning right along with Sam.

Sam aka Sunshine does not have a mean bone in her body. She is sweet tender and loves with all her being. Hawke knows feeds off of this and wants to be the man Sam sees when she looks at him. He would do anything to see his Sunshine smile.

Then we meet the lawyer Josh. This man was so sweet and tender. He was just what Sam needed in her life. Someone constant and truly good.

He quickly became her BFF and the person she loved without realizing she loved him like that. I feel hard for Josh. He was not perfect but in my eyes, he is perfect for her.... I might have told Sam that 100 times as I read this beautiful story.

This man is sweet, sexy, and only has eyes for his princess aka Sam.

Josh knew Sam better than she knew herself often.

"He tipped up my chin to meet my eyes. "You're you, and I can't change you, your desire to save people. I wouldn't want to change you for anything, Princess. But don't lose yourself while saving others, okay?"

This made my heart so happy. I am not telling you which guy she is with here. Read the book! Insert my evil cackle here.

"As his breathing evened out until he was soundly sleeping, a single tear escaped my eye because I knew this was real. Love wasn't fleeting. It didn't excite you one minute and die out the next. That was lust. This was everlasting. A love that stood by you for a thousand years."

You really need to give this book a try ladies and gents. It is one heck of a ride that you do not want to miss!! I cannot wait for more!!

Just so you know, this does end in a cliffhanger. I did not know that until I was halfway through or I probably would've waited to read it until the second one releases.

Samantha Clarke moved to Chicago to follow her dream of becoming a pastry sous chef. When her and her best friend, Chloe, go to a Def Deception concert, the last thing Sam expects is to actually meet her crush, Hawke Calvin. When Chloe tells Sam she needs to stop thinking and have some fun, that's exactly what Sam does. It's just a one night stand with a rock star though right? There's no way he's going to ever want to see her again. Oh but he does. Hawke is a busy man though and it's not long until Sam meets Josh Stanton. Law student slash part time shoe salesman. Josh has a crush on Sam but she's interested in Hawke. Sam is going to have to choose and it's not going to be easy.

After meeting Hawke, I told myself that I didn't care who the other guy was, how sweet he was or how damn cute he was. My mind was made up. I want Sam to pick Hawke. Then I met Josh and guess what? I fucking love Josh. Now what am I suppose to do? Who am I suppose to choose? Well, I mean, who do I want Sam to choose? I thought Mia would've made this easy for us. Give us one douchebag and one great guy that way it's a no brainer. NOPE. Both of these guys were pretty damn awesome.

Sam was smart and sweet. I liked her but I didn't like how she treated Josh sometimes. I felt like she was leading him on a little at times. But as far as her personality and everything, I enjoyed her character.

Hawke and Josh are so different from one another. Hawke is wild and intense while Josh is sweet and safe. Hawke is a rock star so obviously there are concerns. But he was really sweet at times and you could tell that he really cared about Sam. Josh did not make it easy for Sam. He made it clear he was interested in her and he really laid on the charm. He was there for her when she needed him and she was there for him when he needed her. But I did feel like Josh and Sam would be better off as friends.

Like I said, I am having a hard time with my decision on this one. I love Hawke but I love Josh too. I think Josh is better for Sam but damn, I just know the rock star is going to swoop back around and reel me back in.

This was my first read by Mia Kayla and I really enjoyed it. I'm looking forward to reading the second book. I have a feeling it's going to be full of drama.

There is just something about the writing of Mia Kayla that pulls me in to books I wouldn't normally be interested in. Rock star? Not usually my gig. Love triangle? Well, that brings about all kinds of angst and hurt feelings, which usually turns me off. Yet, as usual, as I stepped into her work, I was pulled under by a story I couldn't let go of and characters I could relate to as all my preconceived notions were invalidated.

“I wasn't this girl, unstable and weak. I prided myself on always making the right choices, concise decisions. But I was also never the girl who rock stars called.”

When she's with Hawke, she's Sunshine. Smoldering heat, fiery passions, and completely volatile is the sum of their relationship. You find yourself cheering it on, it's the fantasy, the rebellion, the dream...right?

“He smiled like this was normal between us, as though his kiss were like a high-five departure and not a bucket of gasoline being thrown onto a smoldering flame.”

When she's with Josh, she's Princess. Someone to be cherished, appreciated, and coveted. This was the comfortable relationship, the kind you can see yourself growing old with, and as the calls from Hawke grew further apart, you held out hope for this knight in disguise.

This becomes so much more than the story of a woman trying to choose between two men. One she loves more than he loves her, and one who cares more for her than she does him. Or is that the case? This is a book about a woman trying to find her place in life, and trying to decide who she really wants to be. One man's Sunshine can't be another's Princess... ~ George 4 stars

This is my first book by Mia, and I didn’t know what to expect. Yes, I’m a fan of gut wrenching love triangles so of course I signed up to review an ARC.

This roller coaster of emotion definitely will leave you torn. We meet Sam, the girl-next-door who’s out with a friend and by chance, meets Hawke Calvin, bad boy rock star. He’s everything sinful, sexy, hot, and he when his eyes land on Sam, she has no idea the whirlwind she’s about to embark on. Yes, this is a triangle, and this is where we meet Josh. The reliable, sweet lawyer. Sam is torn, because both these incredible men want her. But how does a girl choose?

There were times I felt Sam was ‘younger’. Her maturity level had me questioning her age a few times. And certain things about her inner dialogue had me frustrated as well. But as we read on and learn more about this girl, it all falls into place.

This story will definitely have you on a roller coaster tide and will leave you dangling on the edge, it ends in a cliffhanger, so be warned. If you hate them, then wait till the second book is out.

All in all, it was a great read, and I’m definitely #TeamHawke!!

I received a copy from the author and I’m voluntarily leaving an honest and unbiased review.

Unbelievable Good!!!
Mia Kayla is an excellent writer. Her plots are so believable, the writing phenomenal, and the feelings extremely hard to get over with! She always leave me in a state of book hangover!

I have a thing for rock stars stories. Maybe its the glam, the high from the concerts, I don't know, I just know I get really excited to read what will happen in these characters life.
In Torn Between Two, you get two tormented characters. They feel right together, Sam is a fan of Hawke's music and one day she gets to meet him, and the attraction between them is strong! At first you might think that Hawke is only trying to have her, but later you see there's so much more... Sam is pretty confused with their thing and then when Josh enters in her life she's even more confused!

Yes, it's a love triangle, there's no cheating at all, but the emotions are all over the place!
I can't even say in which team I am... they are both so good to her!

Fortunately book 2 is almost right here, because after the last scene in this one, I cant wait to know what happens next!
